Shivani Charak, one of the top sport climbers of the country, opened the account for J&K with a gold medal in Lead climbing in women’s category of the IMF All India Bouldering and Lead Climbing competition being held at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling.
In the semifinals wherein 24 climbers from throughout the country participated, Shivani had slipped at a crucial point to secure the 5th place among the eight finalists. However, in the final round she gave an excellent performance to go ahead of others and bagged the gold. 
Pratiksha of Bangalore and Shriya Nanker of Pune secured the second and third place respectively. In the men’s Bouldering, with 73 climbers participating, Mrityunjay Sharma of J&K raised vision of a medal when he entered the final round. 
But despite his best efforts against very tough international competitors he could secure only the sixth place. 
“In the Boys category, Ajay Deep and Arun Deep Singh of J&K have entered the final round by securing the fifth place. Final round shall be played late in the evening,” general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria told SAN.
However, Asma Gul in the Girls category could not perform to her full potential in lead climbing and failed to reach the final round. She secured only the 11th place in a field of 23 climbers.
